2007 ROCHESTER GIRL’S “FIRE ON ICE” TOURNAMENT RULES
TEAM AND PLAYER QUALIFICATION:
1) Must be USA Hockey or CHA registered
2) The tournament fee has been paid before first game.
GAME SCHEDULING AND RULES:
1) The official game schedule shall be provided to the coach or team manager before the start of the first game. Team manager and coaches are responsible for ensuring the team is at the assigned
rink at the correct time. Failure to do so results in the game being forfeited (score 1 to 0).
2) Registration: Each player, coach and team official must sign the score sheet ½ hour prior to the scheduled start of each game.
3) Each team must provide a representative over the age of 18 to tend their team’s penalty box.
4) Teams must be ready to play fifteen (15) minutes before the starting time on the official game schedule. Delays in the first face-off shall be subtracted from the time of the first period and a Delay of
game Penalty may be assessed to the team causing the delay.
5) Game timing commences with a 3:00 minute warm-up starting when the Zamboni doors close. The timekeeper shall commence and end the warm-up by sounding the buzzer. Teams not ready will
forfeit their warm-up time.
6) All rules established and published by USA Hockey shall apply except when modifi ed by tournament committee. U.S.A. teams Mouth guards REQUIRED! Mouth guards highly recommended for
Canadian teams. Neck guards are required for all Canadian players. Neck guards are highly recommended for USA Teams.
7) All games shall have 12/12/12 stop time periods with the exception when the ‘Mercy Rule’ applies. A “Mercy Rule” shall apply as follows: If 6 goals separate the teams in the third period; a running
clock will be used. Running time shall revert back to stop time if the difference at any time becomes 4 or less goals.
8) NCAA face-off rules will be used in an effort to keep the tournament on schedule: After a play stoppage occurs the referee will allow 15 seconds for both teams to complete their line changes after
which he will signal the players to take their positions at the face off location. The referee will allow 5 seconds after the signal for the players to become set for the face off. If any player fails to be
ready for the face off in 5 seconds the referee will
a. For a neutral zone face off the puck will be dropped immediately.
b. For an end zone face off the referee will eject the center from the face off circle of the team that is not ready.
9) NO time outs will be permitted in preliminary games. One thirty (30) second timeout will be permitted in semi-final and championship games ONLY.
10) Locker room keys are obtained by exchanging a set of car keys at the ESL front lobby desk. Locker rooms must be left in the same condition as found before return of keys. If any damage or
unclean conditions exist when received the front desk should be notified before taking possession.
11) All suspended coaching staff / players are not allowed on the bench or otherwise involved in the game.
12) An injured or apparently injured player resulting in a stoppage in play must return to the bench and may return to the ice only after the next stoppage of play.
13) Division standings will be determined by points: (5 total points per game)
Each team will receive 2 points for each game won, 1 point for each game tied; 1 point for every period won, 1/2 point for every period tied
14) If teams are tied for points after preliminary games, settling tiebreaker is:
*a) Head-to-head
b) Most Wins
c) Goal percentage ratio **GF/(**GF+GA)
d) Lowest goals against
e) Least penalty minutes
f) Coin flip
** 6 goals MAX differential per game used (e.g. 10-1 score = 7 Goals for, 1 Goal against)
(Running up the goals FOR beyond 6 won’t increase the team’s goal percentage ratio)
*Note: Skip a if more than 2 teams are tied.
15) A four-team format will consist of one division. Each team plays each other once. The two teams with the most points will play the championship game. The remaining two teams will participate in
a consolation game.
16) A six-team format will consist of two divisions of three teams each. You will play your first three opponents in the other division. The two teams with the highest point totals after the first three games
have been completed will compete for the championship. In case of a tie in points, please reference rule #14. The remaining 4 teams will each participate in a consolation game.
17) An eight-team format will consist of two four-team divisions. The first three games are within the same division. The top team from each division will advance to the championship game. In case of
a tie in points, please refer to rule # 14. The six teams that did not play in the championship game will each participate in a consolation game.
18) A ten-team format will consist of two fi ve-team divisions. Each team plays every other team in their division once. The top team from each division will advance to the championship game. In case
of a tie in points, please refer to rule # 14.
19) A twelve-team format will consist of three four-team divisions. The first three games are within the same division. The top team from each division will advance to the semi-final round. Of the
remaining teams, the team with the highest number of points will advance to the semi-final round as the wildcard. In case of a tie in points, please refer to rule # 14. The winners of the semi-final games
will advance to the championship game. The eight teams that did not play in the semi-final games will each participate in a consolation game.
20) A sixteen-team format will consist of four four-team divisions. The first three games are within the same division. The top team from each division will advance to the semi-final round. In case of
a tie in points, please refer to rule # 14. The winners of the semi-final games will advance to the championship game. The twelve teams that did not play in the semi-final games will each participate
in a consolation game.
21) A twenty-team format will consist of fi ve four team divisions. The first three games are within the same division. The top team from each division will advance to the quarter-final round. Of the
remaining teams the 3 teams with the next highest number of points will also advance to the quarter-final round as wildcards. The winners of the quarterfinal games will advance to the semi-final round.
The winners of the semi-final games will advance to the championship game. The twelve teams that did not play in the quarter-final games will each participate in a consolation game.
22) Championship and Semi-Final Games ONLY! In the event of a tie game, a one (1) minute rest will be followed by a fi ve (5) minute 3 on 3 sudden victory overtime period. Penalties result in one
additional player to the opposing team, 4 on 3 for first penalty, 5 on 3 if second penalty is taken. Players enter game from penalty box until next play stoppage where 3 on 3 player count is restored.
If still tied, sudden victory shootout rounds will then commence until one team scores and the other team does not. No player may shoot twice before every player has taken a turn. Home team must
pick to go first or last for all rounds.
23) Home team is listed first on schedule and will wear light color sweater/jerseys and receive last line change honors.

PENALTIES:
Minors: 2 minutes, Majors: 5 minutes, Misconduct’s: 10 minutes
Fighting penalties: Require the player to be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
